PC2.0: VIA opens cards
Last week VIA made an attempt to intrigue the computer community with its announcement of “Mobility 2.0 “.
The cards were revealed yesterday. The company intends to soon establish the production of a mobile platform, called by the company itself PC2.0 (personal computer, version 2.0).
One of the components of the “second edition of the PC” should be a motherboard of the Mobile-ITX form factor, which is smaller than many business cards – 75 x 45 mm. It is equipped with an integrated x86-compatible processor and CDMA module. Currently, such boards are at the stage of prototyping, and its main application will be mobile phones, which can be safely called mobile computers.
The second component of VIA’s move towards “Mobility 2.0 “became the reference design of the NanoBook UMD laptop. On display to attendees at Computex Taipei 2021, it is a highly compact device weighing only 850 grams.
The compact laptop accommodates a 7 “touchscreen display (WVGA), a 1.2 GHz VIA C7-M ULV processor, a board based on the VIA VX700 chipset, 1 GB of DDR2 memory, a 30 GB HDD, an 802.11b / g, Bluetooth, 4-in-1 card reader, 2 USB ports.0 and even DVI output.
The battery life of such a solution is up to 4.5 hours – not so short in comparison with most UMPCs based on Intel chips.
Products based on the NanoBook UMD reference design are expected to go on sale under various brands in the second half of 2021. Their price will be about $ 600.
