Qimonda and Advantest to figure out how to test GDDR5 together

According to the source, Qimonda and Advantest intend to jointly develop equipment for testing GDDR5 memory chips.

Recall that GDDR5 memory, according to experts, should replace GDDR3. According to some estimates, in just four years it will occupy 90% of the segment of high-performance video memory market solutions. In particular, such memory for future video cards based on AMD R700 and NVIDIA G90 / 100 graphics processors is being developed by Qimonda.

It is assumed that cooperation with Advantest will reduce the cost of creating tools for testing manufactured chips and establish mass testing of GDDR5 in serial production.

The GDDR5 standard itself is still under development and JEDEC approval, but this does not prevent manufacturers from solving issues related to the mass production of promising memory. Qimonda expects to show the first GDDR5 chips to the public this year, and the serial production should be deployed in the first quarter of the next year.
