AMD plans for 2021: Deneb, Propus, Regor and Sargas
Before the release of the new AMD K10 architecture processors (the first of which should be the server Barcelona ones), there are still several months, and the company is already intensively working on the next generation of its chips.
Recall that K10 will bring support for the new edition of the HyperTransport 3 bus.0, L3 cache shared between processor cores and a new Socket AM2 + processor socket, theoretically backward compatible with the current Socket AM2. At the same time, the new processors will be manufactured using the 65nm process technology recently mastered by AMD.
The source reports that at 45nm SOI (silicon on insulator) norms, the K10 architecture will migrate in the second half of 2021. Intel’s traditional CMOS technology is thus one year ahead of the competition.
The first high-performance 45nm processors from AMD are codenamed Deneb FX. The key difference from Agena FX will be their support for DDR3 memory controller.
For the upper range of the mass segment, Deneb will be released – the first processors with Socket AM3, which, apparently, will not have backward compatibility with AM2.
Later than Deneb FX and Deneb 45nm Propus and Regor due by the end of 2021. The first of them will also implement shared L3 cache, but there will be only two cores, not four, as in Deneb. Regor will be deprived of the L3 cache.
Finally, the most affordable 45nm AMD processors in development are codenamed Sargas. These are single-core processors that will have socket AM3 and support for DDR3.
