New AMD Processor Prices Announced Officially

AMD unveils new prices for microprocessors. Dual-core models fell even more than expected; overall, the decline affected almost the entire range of desktop and mobile products.

Discontinued models are missing from the updated list. In particular, the Athlon 64 FX-70 left the AMD Quad FX processor family (with DSDC architecture). The two remaining models – Athlon 64 FX-72 and Athlon 64 FX-74 – have dropped in price by $ 200 (per pair) and now cost $ 599 and 799 per pair, respectively.

A complete table with new prices can be found on the company’s website, here are the most interesting positions that have been adjusted:

  • Entry-level dual-core processor drops to $ 73. However, if you wish, as we have already reported, the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane (65 nm) 1.9 GHz microprocessor, 2 x 512 KB L2, Socket AM2 in the OEM configuration can be purchased for $ 65;
  • The AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 processor has started to cost significantly less than a hundred dollars – now it is offered at $ 83;
  • The fastest model in the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ line (3.0 GHz, 2 MB L2, 2 GHz HyperTransport, AM2) will cost $ 241;
  • Single-core Athlon 64 prices now range from $ 58 (Athlon 64 3200+, 2 GHz, 512 KB L2, 2 GHz HyperTransport, AM2 and 939) to $ 94 (Athlon 64 4000+, 2.6 GHz, 512 KB L2, 2 GHz HyperTransport, AM2);
  • The more affordable Sempron family starts with the Sempron 3000+ (1.6GHz, 256K L2, 1.6GHz HyperTransport, AM2), which is priced at $ 31. The most expensive Sempron for desktop PCs – Sempron 3800+ (2.2 GHz, 256 KB L2, 1.6 GHz HyperTransport, AM2) slightly overwhelms the Athlon 64 line at the price – it costs 69 dollars.
  • Traditionally, the price for mobile versions of processors is higher, especially in Socket S1 – the most expensive Mobile AMD Sempron 3600+ (2.0 GHz, 256 KB L2, 1.6 GHz HyperTransport) will cost customers $ 134. However, this is half the price of a dual-core AMD Turion 64 X2 in the same performance (Socket S1) – AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 (2.0 GHz, 1 MB L2, 1.6 GHz HyperTransport) costs $ 263.

As you remember, according to the available data, Intel also plans to reduce the prices of its microprocessors this month, so, to the delight of buyers who prefer AMD and Intel products, the exchange of blows in the “price war” continues.
