Google may go back from AMD to Intel

In the spring of last year, we celebrated a milestone – the largest Internet search service, Google, switched from using Intel processors in its servers to AMD products.

Now it is reported that Google and Intel have signed an agreement for the supply of Xeon for 300-400 thousand servers of the first of the companies. DigiTimes says that we are talking about the supply of specialized platforms, in the creation of which Gigabyte Technology will also participate.

So it looks like Google is admitting that the balance of power in the server processor segment has changed. At one time, the architecture of Intel Netburst was inferior in terms of energy efficiency and performance to solutions of competitors, but the release of Core changed the state of affairs. Also, it looks like the chipsets won’t cost anything when buying Intel Clovertown processors from Google.

Well, another unpleasant blow for AMD, let’s hope that the company will take it with dignity and continue to develop its promising products, including potentially interesting for Google Barcelona.
