Ciprico RAIDCore 5000 cards combine to form a virtual SAS and SATA II RAID controller

The growth in the volume of hard disk drives with a simultaneous decrease in their price increases interest in solutions that provide connection of a large number of hard drives to a server, workstation or ordinary desktop PC. Ciprico announced the start of mass production of the new RAIDCore RC5000 series, which includes RAID controllers designed for use with drives equipped with SAS and SATA II interfaces.

RC5000 controllers are designed for PCI-X and PCI Express slots. Starting this month, the company includes models with eight ports in its range: RC5110-08 (low profile) and RC5152-08 for PCI-X bus, RC5210-08 and RC5252-08 for PCI Express. All board options are equipped with state-of-the-art mini-SAS SFF8087 connectors. 12- and 16-port boards RC5252-12 and RC5252-16 are to be added in the middle of the year, based on the recently introduced Marvell 6640 chip, which implements the functions of a SAS / SATA II controller. Declared support for Windows and Linux operating systems, as well as full compatibility with models of the previous RC4000 series.

According to the company, the bandwidth of the products is 1.1 Gb / s (in a configuration with 16 drives equipped with a SATA II interface). The maximum number of simultaneously connected hard drives reaches 32. In this case, the user can choose any suitable combination of boards equipped with 4, 8, 12 or 16 ports. Drivers make multiple Ciprico RAIDCore 5000 cards appear to the system as one virtual RAID controller.

MSRP for RC5152-08 and RC5252-08 is $ 299, RC5110-08 or RC5210-08 is $ 219.
