The novelty, created by the specialists of the Japanese company TEAC, was named Filltune HP F100, and its main “highlight” is the Bone Conduction Technology (BCT), built on the conduction of sound by the bones of the skull.
In ordinary headphones, sound is emitted by membranes that vibrate under the influence of electromagnetic waves. In the case of BCT, the bones of the skull play the role of a kind of membrane. The vibrations are transmitted through them directly to the inner ear. By the way, a similar technique has been used for quite a long time in devices designed for people with hearing impairments. However, it has a significant limitation associated with the range of reproducible frequencies – simply put, such a device is still suitable for speech, but not for music. Meanwhile, it is known that with age, the perception of the high-frequency part of the sound range weakens even in healthy people, so the “musical” version of BCT could have a very wide field of application.
It seems that TEAC engineers managed to overcome this limitation – in any case, the declared upper limit of the reproducible frequency range of the Filltune HP F100 is 25 kHz, which is noticeably higher than the 20 kHz mark, usually referred to as the perception limit of the average listener.
Filltune HP F100 includes an amplifier powered by 3 AAA batteries and capable of delivering 0.76W of power per channel. The claimed battery life is 10 hours. Headphone dimensions (folded) are 112 ? 103 ? 22 mm, weight – 120 g; the amplifier weighs 50 g, its dimensions are 32 ? 134 ? 24 mm.
